A Hike and a Luau

Today we started visiting the Big Island of Hawaii. We decided to drive North and see what happens. We stopped in a little village to check out some of the history (Celt read the history, I am not much of a history girl myself).
Then we kept driving toward the “Scenic View” that was recommended on our map. We got to the end of the road and if we wanted to see more we had to hike down the mountain. The view was amazing and so we got curious and wanted to keep going. Well… I wasn’t prepared at all to go on a hike! I was wearing a dress, no sunscreen and had no water. But down we went anyway. Celt carried our daughter down and I felt like I should do my part so I said I would carry her back up (she is almost 20 lbs).
So we went down and down and down some more… We passed many people on their way up and I kept asking them if we were almost there but apparently we had still a while to go. I was already starting to dread the hike back up. Here are some photos of the view from the top, the hike down and at sea level.
So when it was time to go back up I kept to my word and carried our daughter up. Now this was a quest for me and I had something to prove! I was real stubborn and didn’t let Celt help me at all. It was hard and I was sweating but I made it all the way up! I don’t know why I felt like proving myself this much but it did feel good to accomplish it! I did it, I did it! I am an Ironman!! haha
For dinner tonight we went to a Luau which a Hawaiian party where they have a dancing show and a buffet. It is expensive but I think everyone needs to go once in their life when they visit Hawaii. The food was real good too! Here are some cam capture of us on the grass before the luau started. Notice Celt with not one but 2 drinks huh? (OK OK one was for me…)
