Mammoth Cave

I was really determined to do something with my dad while he was visiting us. We don’t get out much I think because we don’t plan things ahead. It is easy to get caught up in the every day life and never find the time to do fun things.

So I decided that we should go visit the Mammoth Cave National Park! It is about 185 miles from where we live but it is all highway to get there so it took us a little over 2 hours. We arrived early enough that we were able to squeeze in a little tour of the caves today. It was way more fun and impressive then I thought! Celt and especially my dad were both amazed as well! That made me really happy since I chose this destination.

To describe today’s tour, we walked about 3/4 mile inside a big wide and high cave. It does actually look like mammoths could fit in there but that never happened. In fact, no animals can live there because there is no food and it is too dark. They named the cave “mammoth” because it is so big! It is the longest known cave in the world with 367 miles explored to this day and they keep finding more of it! Really amazing!

We stayed at the Super 8 hotel (my first choice of hotel cause I am cheap I guess). Someone recommended we ate a local restaurant so we went there for dinner. I didn’t like it at all though. I didn’t like the food, smoking was allowed and it had more the feel of a cafeteria then a restaurant.

Tomorrow we have another tour planned. I had chosen another easy one but Celt wanted to change it to a more difficult and longer tour, so I did. Him and I would really like to try the spelunking if we could find a babysitter for a whole day. That would be so much fun ; six hours of strenuous exploring!
